Contempt for Congress
ONLY FAIR?
Interpretation is difficult, but could it be that given the support of Democrats over Republicans, excellent 3 to 1, and the flip flop of only fair to poor, Dem (40/33) Rep (33/42) that it depends on what is actually being supported. Some Republicans may be against congress for not going their way, while some Democrats may not support congress for not going more their way. It is hard to separate out independents, but it would make sense that given the lack of support for the administration that there be more resistance to the administration.
Gee! I did not realize I would stumble upon an anomaly.
The bottom line is that there is surprising support for Congress, and there should be a line that rates the media and polling. The poll shows congress getting 58 to 38 support (only fair or better to poor with 4 unsure). On the media/poll question it might be interesting to note that Pelosi and Rice are have more support and more unsure, but which might play into the above political non-calculations.
Missing from the poll it seems is anything related to what their jobs are. Not to mention who should have contempt or be in contempt.
GO HERE! For Accountability! My Comment there:
Please do what is needed to prevent further crimes by the administration, and failing that, prevent any pardons. Impeachment may be the only way to prevent wholesale escape from justice, but please keep the pressure on.

POLITICS
NOT A DIRTY WORD!
But it is in the eye or ear of the beholder.
Embedded in the previous postings are two points about accountability.
Politics and timing.
They seem to play a big part in the planning of any endeavor.
These too, are not dirty words.
Except possibly in the grip of the wielders of power.
But I digress, the particulars are that accountability is part of the process and success of our process. There must be investigations because they are political and because of the timing. The arguments must be held and there is never a better time, especially for politics. But the actual particulars of accountability are what role politics has played and will play and whether they preempted accountability. It is not just a coincidence[*] that Watergate involved the Nixon/Ford administration and their respective views on what is legal and what is political. It is the same characters and the polarity between the president being unitary (Nixon) and accountability (the process) being political (Ford), not to mention subsequent success and failures of economics, war and foreign policy. I won't get into the respective overlap and/or disconnect between committees and their intelligence sharing and responsibilities, but I will note the relation to issues in the current political campaigns and the press for or on the bottom line, the people.
[As usual I have embedded too much in rhetoric, another word that is not dirty, except in how it is used, and in which the administration and probably McCain places its only hope. But the point of politics and timing being important hinges on the process and the administration has been preemptive with too much. Now rhetoric is lost in anachronism, while accountability was lost before September 11th, 2001.]
[*]footnote: "positive polarization" and somewhere there was a political calculus of the Bush impeachment, but this is only the rhetoric and all that is needed in this rhetorical war on aftermath and preempting of hope.

An Inconvenient Quarterback.
Friday afternoon, or Monday morning.
I truly don't know what could be expanded upon, but there should be a clear contrast and comparing going on by the people and the media. There are three branches of government and then there is the press. Of course justice and the people are part of it, but it does depend upon if you are a "uniter" or a "divider" or just talk. Unfortunately just talk does not mean straight talk or talk alone.
But timing is part of all reality, let alone change.
Hence: Bring it on.
But not just counting on the press here.

Hearing on Executive Power and its Limitations

tangibleinfo
Impeachment is not on the table.
Information is being brought to the table.
Alternatives and other measures are also on the table.
Justice is finally appearing before the people.
As well as injustices. Not to mention "representations".
It is not too fine a point to put this, as a
very important if not entertaining event in history,
which the media is not likely to cover as it did during the Watergate era.
But the fine point is that the internet coverage is where the media and the people may be buried. The "media" it must be realized is a word here that has been manipulated in this paragraph, but justice is what you will find manipulated by the media and the people at any table.
And the above tables must not result in information being tabled,
without at least enumeration and verification.
One may wonder where justice comes in. It is found in the constitutional process being used fully to uphold the law and sworn duties of every office. This could therefore be considered a criminal investigation, but primarily an investigation represented by what I believe is the contrast between what Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon claimed. The latter being the law if he says it is, and the former that all impeachments are political. The latter fell and the former excused, but justice should still be pursued. The process must be used even if politics is part of the investigations, for politics to recover esteem and its place for the people.
[The record will be held open for 5 days, according to Conyers, and there seems a lot of room for cross reference and verification, but there is probably no limit to what could appear.]

Courage to be...
taking a test.
Is it the right test? Who is tested?
Who makes the test?...Actually?
"Is there courage there? Is there boldness there? Is there ability to think outside of the box?" - Wilson Goode, Sr., Former Mayor of Philadelphia
Not exactly the questions for the test, but already demonstrated, by the way.
"They have to demonstrate the courage to be lonely. The courage to understand that they may be making a decision that no one will understand, no one will like, and few will respect." - Andrew Card, Former Chief of Staff of Pres. George W. Bush
Not exactly even questions, but nonetheless demonstrated, by the way.
Could the media pass the test? Or are they passing the buck? Will we pick it up?
McCain: "would rather lose a campaign than lose a war"
Obama: "not interested in a false choice"
The parsing the test problem?
What about* the blue book approach?
* I have yet to filter all these tests, but it seems that McCain is taking Andrew Card's advice. And I come now to the final line that ties this up:
"But, the article may have done more for the campaign without being published than it ever could have if it was." That seems to be the McCain strategy, perform poorly and blame the coverage. While it is mistakes that often get more coverage, whining is not winning, but it plays the refs. The irony in the rejection of McCain's piece may be balanced by the error in his parsing by CBS.
[And my own parsing is tested: "It is what it is". Just an update.]

just politics [*]
Just politics or perverted Freudian Projection?

[UPDATE TWO: BREAKING/BROKEN]
[Finally if these do posts represent too much of a swing in some sort of representation I hope to smooth it out with this: It is too easy to declare a solution, but the problem is in the getting there and is too often preempted by the defining of it.]

McCAIN: I had the courage and the judgment to say that I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war. It seems to me that Senator Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign. It seems that McCain's judgement is on display. Not to mention the courage of the Straight Talk Express.

Do Nothing Filibuster
First I must say there has been progress. (Updated)
But there is need for a flip-flop while it is still a high wire act if you do the math.
On the bright side a comparison to the Republican wave of 1994 and the 1997 congress shows Democrats getting things done. But if we could get it together there are 10 Democrats that are so called "not progressive", and some of the best known "progressives" rated "only kinda" number another 11.(from above: you do the math) But Democrats should be able to get it together to highlite the fact that they have made progress despite their numbers and the media coverage.
A recent whine of the right about the media could be the occasion for investigations, but that would be too much on the table. So maybe I have made my own flip-flop here or lost momentum in the math of getting it together. But when it comes to accountability, it is easy to get fired up again.
Basically the math is so difficult, not just because of the unity of Republicans and the diversity of Democrats, but the bulk of problems that have resulted from the variables in the equation of our constitutional government, and what is for someseemingly {*} only political calculus.

To... be careful what you ask for...
McCain called upon Obama to go to Iraq and Afghanistan then whines about the press over covering the event. That after touting his own known qualities and questioning Obama as an unknown quantity. (I can't source these later two points, but maybe these are related.)
But be careful! What would better coverage look like? Should we ask Pastor Wright or Reverend Hagee[*]? Not to mention the run up to Iraq or his run up to Kennebunkport. (I note the previous two links as unfair and unbalanced, but the source is at least the questionable New York Times and that is the link.)
"It is what it is" ** is what McCain said of the press coverage of Obama. I guess that is the definition of Straight Talk Express or is it "Depends"? But on the flip-flop to the top of this piece maybe it is because news is about what is new and you have to make news to be covered, not just depend on the old.
In a final barrage, there was little complaint when the media was doing a "patriotic duty" not to question the war, or cover it under the circumstances. Maybe they have found a new patriotism or have awakened to a new calling to do their jobs? I would not count on it, but we can probably count on the whining.[to be a matter, of course]
[*] [Original elipsed material has not been changed but a few typos have been corrected and this link inserted as breaking "old", I mean news...as well as the last link(s), the bracketed and the bold.]

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Not wanting it to get lost in the previous post I want to repeat it.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
It is imbedded with the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution.
The pre-ramble was a take on a quote by Voltaire, on the perfect being the enemy of the good. It is a rhetorical blend with the technical expectations that people may have for finding success or even reality in a social process. Lost in my work may be the careful use of my words.
What I would not like to get lost is the careful use of words and the opportunity for change, expressed two days ago as Barack Obama called for A New Era of Service.

Enemy of the Good.
Perfect?
NOT, but with quotations or even their marks? None.
Nonetheless, "good" is found there.
This little ramble demonstrates
that the enemy is not anecdotes or metaphors,

Canard Lines
Special thanks to Rachel Maddow for her word of the day.
Canard.
I would like to reserve passage on that bumper sticker,
as Straight Talk Express takes to the seas with Flip-Flopper Crafters: apparently if it looks like a duck...
I think that vets should be up in arms over use of the term Swiftboating for any sort of political campaign. Not literally, but then we should be careful with language. My point is that I guess it is fair game if you want to be gung ho about your truth, but it would be better to know nuance and the difference between being defensive and taking offense, not to mention being being straight or able to lead.
[7-2-08: Over the years, terms have been highjacked or meanings adapted but this takes the cake and bites. Speaking of irony (clad) will wonders never cease? My real point is that Swiftboaters should be honored for their service not for the Flip-Flopper Crafting of the truth. You see I had to be straight about it because the mixed metaphors are probably lost or just pull the triggers or push the buttons of those that have experienced real anecdotes while now being used for weapons of rhetoric. In fact if one wants to circle ones wagons, leave the women and children in and let the truth out. Pardon the antiquated terminology(non-PC-ness)*, it is hard to keep ahead of the curve of progress, but is better than getting ahead of history.]
[MSM **is a big part of this problem in contrast and conflict to: Clark In Context : Slamming Wesley Clark
* another canard, not that it can't be talked about
** Main Stream Media (see comments embedded on MSM) and note that I did not see the original exchange on Face the Nation but here is the closest I found after posting above, while I did hear actual snippets and Clark defending himself and making a good case for why questioning the use of a record is not dishonoring the service, despite what writers put in their headlines or teasers for attention.***]
*** these asterisks(**) need their own asterisks for the sake of closing a loop or the long story short, the MSM is part of the tent, not just the mess, now that the people feel the need for more involvement and there is need for more attention to the process. One can respect the service of more than just the military, but should also have more than faith in the three branches of government and the distinguished press.
